Coxhoe Branch Logo
The History of our Branch Logo
Our branch logo, designed by Ellie Dixon (after winning a competition ran by the local Coxhoe primary school) depicts two emblems of SAFC – the Sunderland AFC Crest and the Black Cat, which is the nickname of the football club.
In the Centre is the image of Coxhoe Hall that was once the finest house in County Durham. It was once home to Elizabeth Barrett Browning, the famous English poet, who was born at the hall in 1806. In 1938 the Hall was bought by East Hetton Colliery Co. It was requisitioned in WW2 and housed British troops and Italian and German prisoners of war.
The Hall fell into disrepair and was finally demolished by the National Coal Board in 1956. The logo can be seen in its full glory, on the concourse in the North Stand alongside other official SAFCSA branch flags.
